Polish authorities raised security alerts on Sunday following intelligence of a potential plot against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The state protection service received the warning first and passed it to the police. Adam Szłapka, a government spokesperson, confirmed Tusk learned of the threat early Sunday. Security chiefs, police leaders, and interior ministry officials met urgently to coordinate the response.
Authorities assess a high probability that the threats will be carried out. Polish security services are already processing a growing number of varied warnings each month. “We take this matter extremely seriously,” said Jacek Dobrzyński, the intelligence services spokesperson.
The security alert follows three separate school stabbings in central Poland’s Mazovia province. The attacks unfolded within four days. One person died and numerous others were wounded, including children.
Officials fear the warnings may be linked to Russian hybrid operations. Tusk previously warned that Moscow plans to intensify attacks against NATO’s eastern flank. Moscow allegedly intends to launch drone or rocket strikes against European nations backing Ukraine. Moscow has denied planning such operations.
