A Houthi strike on Riyadh’s King Khalid airport killed 12 people and injured 309, according to Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority. The assault has pushed US President Donald Trump to consider direct military action alongside Saudi forces.
Saudi-led coalition troops intercepted and destroyed a drone heading toward the eastern region following the airport attack. Civil aviation officials confirmed the casualty figures and secured the facility.
Trump told reporters he would “take a look” at joining Saudi Arabia in striking Houthi targets. He plans to call Saudi Prime Minister Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss the coordinated response.
Tensions also escalated at sea. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said a supertanker struck a naval mine while navigating an “illegal” route through the Straight of Hormuz. Meanwhile, US Central Command reported that it disabled a commercial cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman.
In a separate development, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas postponed legislative elections scheduled for next month until 2027. Abbas also announced a presidential poll for the same year.
